In an interview with RadarOnline, Will Smith said that his 14-year-old actor/rapper Jaden Smith wants to be emancipated from his Fresh Prince pops and mom Jada Pinkett Smith.

“He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated,’” Will explained. “I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ‘Ooh.’”

Jaden — who isn’t old enough to legally drive — wants a crib to call his own and isn’t getting much resistance from daddy Will, who he stars alongside in the action thriller After Earth, in theaters May 31. “That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand.”

As laidback as Will’s parenting skills are, there’s no guarantee Jaden will get the emancipation he desires. But should he get the keys to his very own pad, he and best buddy Justin Bieber can collaborate on a mega house party.
