Jenna Ortega and Michael Keaton have been confirmed as the stars of the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel.
Warner Bros. has set the release date for Beetlejuice 2 as September 6, 2024 with Keaton and Winona Ryder reprising their roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz, respectively, while Justin Theroux and Ortega will play a to be announced character and Ryder’s daughter, respectively.
The project, which was written by Mike Vukadinovich, will be produced by Brad Pitt‘s production company, Plan B and is set to begin film production today (May 10) in London.
News of the comedy horror sequel follows nearly three decades after the original Tim Burton movie made its debut with Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffery Jones and Catherine O’Hara. The beloved classic centered around the recently deceased couple — Davis and Baldwin — navigating into the afterlife as a new family moves into their home. The spirits then hire Keaton’s Beetlejuice to haunt them and scare them out of the house after becoming irritated with Jones and O’Hara’s characters’ shenanigans.
The cult classic made $80 million at the box office and has since become a mainstay of pop culture, inspiring both an animated series and a Tony-nominated Broadway musical and at last the revival of a sequel after being discussed of for many years.
Thus, it seems to be only fitting to cast Ortega into the movie as she has become thee spooky scarlet of our generation from being casted as Tara Carpenter in Scream 5 and Scream 6 and Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s Netflix’s Wednesday series which has presented her with numerous award nominations and wins.
